If tight hips cause issues, try this out while sitting. Lift one foot onto your opposite knee and then with your hands put pressure on the lifted knee towards the floor.
Adding movement up top, leaning into and out of the stretch will train the hips to stay less tight as it replicates movement with the release technique.
